Electronic NC car registration, property tax option approved

RALEIGH, NC (AP) — Drivers could soon get their annual notice to renew their car registration and pay property taxes by email.

The General Assembly gave its final approval Wednesday to legislation allowing the combined tag-and-tax invoice from the Division of Motor Vehicles be sent electronically. The DMV would have to get the vehicle owner’s permission to shift from sending the notice by regular mail.

The House voted unanimously for the option, just like the Senate did it in April.

The bill now goes to Gov. Pat McCrory’s desk.
