WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Multiple lanes near downtown Wilmington were closed around noon Monday as crews responded to an emergency sewer repair, according to the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority.

The righthand eastbound lane of the 400 and 500 blocks of Market Street is closed, with traffic redirected into the inner eastbound lane. In addition, the left-hand northbound lane in the zero block of South Fifth Avenue is shut down, and traffic is being shifted into the outer northbound lane.

Both southbound lanes of South Fifth Avenue in the zero block remain closed due to a separate, ongoing infrastructure project.

Officials expect the emergency repair work to take approximately five hours to complete. Drivers are advised to use caution in the area and follow posted detours.
