Float spa fans say isolation tanks buoy bodies and minds
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Stressed out? Need to unplug from the world?
Try floating your troubles away.
The practice of floating in an isolation tank is enjoying a renaissance after virtually disappearing for decades.
Float spas offer single-person pods or small pools filled with a mixture of water and Epsom salt. That allows for complete buoyancy.
Customers float in darkness and silence for about an hour or 90 minutes. Fans tout it as a way to relax, clear their minds and relieve aches and tension. Each session costs about $50 to $80.
Industry experts say the U.S. has more than 200 float centers, with dozens more in the works.
The resurgence is due in part to high-profile floating enthusiasts like comedian Joe Rogan and some professional athletes.
