FOCUS Broadband issues statement on presidential debate viewing issues

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — FOCUS Broadband is apologizing for technical difficulties that may have impacted viewing of the presidential debate.
Some customers in multiple parts of the Cape Fear informed WWAY they had trouble watching the presidential debate on any of the channels it was airing on.
The following statement was issued to WWAY on behalf of FOCUS Broadband related to those issues that impacted some FOCUS Broadband customers:
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience some of our customers experienced last night due to network congestion caused by unexpected software issues with one of our core routers. This issue resulted in a significant slowdown of internet speeds, particularly affecting those using our streaming service and other streaming platforms.
We understand that many of our customers were trying to watch the presidential debate and that this disruption caused frustration and inconvenience. We deeply regret any impact this had on your viewing experience.
Our technical team has been working diligently to resolve the issue and prevent such occurrences in the future. We value your patience and understanding as we work through this process.
FOCUS Broadband has been transitioning to MergeTV, having some customers replace their boxes for a new fully digital service.
On their website, FOCUS Broadband says MergeTV “allow[s] you to use your FOCUS Broadband internet service to view a lineup of the most popular channels on a variety of devices without monthly cable box fees.”
