Forecasters calling for well-above-average Hurricane Season

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It’s going to be an active Hurricane Season, according to researchers with Colorado State University.
Forecasters released their annual preseason predictions Thursday morning.
Colorado State is forecasting 23 named storms, 11 hurricanes and 5 major hurricanes in 2024.
The average is 14 named storms, 7 hurricanes and 3 major hurricanes.
“Current El Niño conditions are likely to transition to La Niña conditions this summer/fall, leading to hurricane-favorable wind shear conditions. Sea surface temperatures in the eastern and central Atlantic are currently at record warm levels and are anticipated to remain well above average for the upcoming hurricane season,” a press release stated.
Hurricane Season begins in 58 days on June 1st.
