Former North Carolina town officials accused of embezzlement

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The N.C. State Bureau of Investigation says three former town officials have been arrested on a number of embezzlement charges following their indictment this week.

A news release says an investigation requested last year by Rowan County District Attorney Brandy Cook determined that for a period of time from between six and nine years, the three officials embezzled more than a million dollars from the town of Landis for unauthorized payroll increases and unauthorized personal expenses.

The three people charged turned themselves in to authorities on Thursday.
