Former WSOC-TV anchor dies at 93


CHARLOTTE, NC (WWAY) — Former WSOC-TV anchor Doug Mayes died Sunday morning at age 93 according to his family.

Mayes was Charlotte’s first permanent TV anchor in 1952 at WBTV.

He went to Channel 9 in January of 1982 and stayed until he retired in 1988.

Mayes was inducted into the inaugural class of the Charlotte Broadcast Hall of Fame in August.
