Four Oaks residents reject CSX, planned rail container hub

FOUR OAKS, N.C. (AP) – Residents of Four Oaks have told CSX they don’t want a proposed $272 million railroad container hub in their backyard.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reports more than 200 citizens turned out for a meeting at Four Oaks Elementary School. Some of those who spoke at the meeting on Monday accused local and CSX officials of backdoor dealing.

Speakers also said they felt abandoned, lied to and misrepresented by elected officials, especially Four Oaks Mayor Linwood Parker, who they said welcomed CSX to the town against their wishes.

Parker has said he believes the container yard would become the center of a new economy for the area. He was hoping landowners would help attract another glance from CSX after it had abandoned a previous search in the area.
