Go Topless rally tries to normalize bare breasts

ASHEVILLE, NC (WLOS) — Women went topless in Asheville over the weekend.

The ‘Go Topless’ rally event began in 2007. This year it fell on Women’s Equality Day commemorating when women were given the right to vote.

Organizers say it was about equality, and if a man can be shirtless, a woman should have that same right.

“Society has drilled into a woman’s head that it is inappropriate,” one woman said. “We’re not out here to get attention. We’re just here to educate women that it’s okay.”

North Carolina state law says bare breasts do not constitute indecent exposure.

Sunday’s rally was one of many that happened across the U.S. and around the world.
