Good Shepherd Center receives $50,000 grant

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Good Shepherd Center has been recognized as the 2023 Neighborhood Champion awardee for their work advancing economic mobility and building up underserved neighborhoods in coastal North Carolina.
The center will receive the opportunity to participate in virtual leadership training delivered by experts in the nonprofit sector on topics like human capital management, increasing financial sustainability and storytelling and a $50,000 grant over two years.
“The needs of unhoused members of our community have never been more acute, with 100 homeless adults and children seeking safe refuge at Good Shepherd every night,” said Katrina Knight, Executive Director, Good Shepherd Center. “The flexible funding it provides will go far in sustaining our core safety net services for homeless adults and children, even as we prepare to grow the organization over the next few years with an expanded campus, new family shelter, greater Rehousing efforts, and additional housing for the chronically homeless.”
Good Shepherd Center works to address basic needs and provide support for those experiencing homelessness to overcome obstacles related to securing and retaining housing. The Good Shepherd Center operates multiple facilities including day and night shelters, as well as the Sgt. Eugene Ashley Memorial Center to providing short-term transitional housing for up to 16 homeless veterans.
