Governor Stein encourages driver safety with winter weather impacting parts of the state

RALEIGH, NC (WWAY) — As winter weather impacts parts of North Carolina Monday, Governor Josh Stein urges caution on the roads.
“I’ve been in close contact with the Department of Transportation and Emergency Management, and we are preparing for a wintry mix to cause slick roads through Tuesday morning,” said Governor Josh Stein. “These weather conditions will impact much of North Carolina, especially in the western and northern parts of the state. We urge travelers in impacted areas to take all necessary precautions. Please be cautious while driving and monitor local weather reports for reliable updates.”
Western parts of the state are under a Winter Weather Advisory until Monday night whereas northern areas winter weather advisory will continue through noon on Tuesday.
NCDOT shared in a Facebook post Monday around 4:00 p.m. that many roads are slick in northern counties, higher elevations, and along I-95 and ask drivers to take it slow.
NCDOT treated the roads over the weekend and continued to treat them on Monday.
N.C. Emergency Management officials recommend these tips to prepare for winter weather:
- If you must be on the roads slow down and be cautious of black ice
- Stay informed with trustworthy sources like the NWS and local media
- Check your disaster kit in case there’s a power outage
- Stay up-to-date with roadway information from NCDOT
