Habitat for Humanity building a new home for a family in Bolivia

BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) — Brunswick County Habitat for Humanity held the groundbreaking ceremony for a family in Bolivia Tuesday afternoon.

The shovels were put in the ground and construction has started for a new home for the Marks family. They applied and were accepted by Habitat for Humanity.

The family will be given a mentor to help guide them through the process and they will need to put in sweat-equity with the nonprofit.

Some ways to do this include working on the house or working at the restore.

Detwan Marks tells us what he is looking forward to with his new home.

“Well to basically have a stable home for my daughter. To make sure she has somewhere at the end of the day to have a safe haven. Well, we are very excited, and it is an honor to be a part of the habitat family,” Marks said.

There will be two more celebrations throughout the project. One will be a wall blessing and then a home dedication.

The project is said to take roughly 18 months from the time they got the acceptance call to when the keys are handed over.
