BOILING SPRING LAKES, NC (WWAY) — In a Facebook post, City Manager, Gordon Hargrove announced that the work at the Pine Lake Dam site would need to be stopped according to the Engineering Consultant.

The post went on to say that during the rainfall on June 14th, the Pine Lake water levels did not appear to be correct.

The city contacted the contractor, design engineers and the consulting engineers.

The contractor confirmed he followed the reconstruction plan and the dam had been built to the design and elevation specifications.

Per the city’s request, the consulting engineers verified the elevation of the Pine Lake Dam. Based on the current reports, the contractor did build the dam to the elevations on the plan but that elevation is allegedly incorrect.

There has not been a full explanation of how this happened but the design engineer will be at the next meeting on July 1st.

Hargrove said in the post, “While this is frustrating for all, please allow us time to work through a resolution.”

In an effort to get E. Boiling Spring Road reopened, the city is looking toward paving the North Lake Dam site and determine temporary measures to open up the roadway over Pine Lake Dam.

The work continues at both the North Lake Dam site and the Sanford Dam site.

The  engineering team checked and confirmed that the design and elevations are correct at North Lake Dam, Sanford Dam, and Upper Dam.

Hargrove went on to say, “Please understand this is not what anyone wanted and the City will work diligently on the Pine Lake dam issue and to get E. Boiling Spring Road open as soon as possible.”
