‘Happiest Seaside Town’ winner to be named Tuesday

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — We will finally find out if Southport was named ‘America’s Happiest Seaside Town’ this week.

Coastal Living Magazine named the town one of the country’s finalists.

The Assistant Director of Tourism Joni Schinske said just being in the running will really help promote Southport as a tourist destination.

“I think that people will probably move it up higher on their list of things to do, to come to Southport,” said Schinske. “And I don’t know I am hoping that it will increase our economic development and people will discover what a great place this is.”

The magazine looked at factors like standard of living, crime rating, financial well-being of locals, and the percentage of sunny days.

The big winner will be revealed Tuesday on Coastal Living Magazine’s website.
