Hardware stores see surge in shoppers ahead of winter weather

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — With snow in the forecast, many people are flocking to local hardware stores to stock up on winter essentials.

Elise Rocks, general manager of Craft American Hardware in Wilmington, says customers began preparing early, with many coming in as early as Thursday to grab must-have items for the cold weather.

She said things like space heaters, salt, firewood, and even sleds are selling quickly.

Rocks emphasized the importance of being prepared, particularly to avoid being caught without power or heat during the storm.

“There’s a lot of items you can have in your car that you want to make sure you have to prepare for, just in case you get stranded,” Rocks said. “We can help with those kinds of emergency kits. If there are people you know who are alone, make sure you’re checking in on them and ensuring they’re safe or if there’s anything they may need.”

Rocks added that the store will remain open during the winter weather event for anyone who may need supplies.
