Helping hands: Baptists on Mission assist homeowners in need
CAPE FEAR, NC (WWAY) — The North Carolina Chapter of Baptists on Mission, a nonprofit organization, assesses and repairs damage caused by natural disasters at no cost to homeowners.
“They’ve really helped us pick up the pieces, and trusting in God has truly brought us through this,” says Alicia Smith, who faced the aftermath of the September 16th storm that flooded her home with 36 inches of water.
After reaching out to Baptists on Mission last Saturday, the team arrived Monday, ready to help.
“The speed of their response and the hard work they put in have brought us so much peace. It felt overwhelming, but their support has helped our family relax and restored our hope,” Alicia shares.
Volunteers from the North Carolina Chapter have been actively assessing and cleaning up storm damage in Southport, Leland, and Bolivia.
Their assistance includes removing damaged sheetrock, insulation, and flooring. They also spray for mold, which has been a significant help for the Smiths due to the extensive water damage.
Greg Riggs, Site Inspector with Baptists on Mission, states that their work goes beyond patching holes and fixing repairs.
“We are out in the community providing both spiritual and physical support. Our goal is to share hope and help these families rebuild their lives,” he explains.
Alicia echoes this sentiment, saying, “We’re just grateful…for the community pitching in like they have and helping us to have peace and able to see the light at the end of the tunnel.”
According to Riggs, they’re looking for more volunteers. If you’re in a position to help or if you need assistance with your home, you can find more information about Baptists on Mission on their social media.
