High-speed chase leads to marijuana bust in Columbus County


COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — An 8-month long undercover investigation led to a high-speed chase that ended in a Columbus County cornfield.

According to the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office, they discovered Michael Tyrone Brown, 34, was bringing marijuana in from Georgia.

Officials say Brown ran off the road, collided with a ditch and drove through a corn field before stopping.

The sheriff’s office says he had a large duffel bag containing 25 pounds of marijuana.

Brown face charges including:

1 count of Felony Flee to Elude Arrest with a Motor Vehicle
2 counts of Felony Trafficking in Marijuana
1 count of Misdemeanor Injury to Trees/Crops/Lands
Failure to Stop for a Stop Sign/ Flashing Red Light
Driving Left of Center
Fictitious/Altered Title/Registration Card/Tag
Driving While License Revoked

Brown’s passenger, Tabor Eilene Moss, is charged with two counts of Felony Trafficking in Marijuana.

They are being held in the Columbus County Detention Center. Brown’s bond is $60,000. Moss’s bond is $50,000.
