Highlights from World Surf League competition in Tahiti
TEAHUPO’O, TAHITI, FRENCH POLYNESIA — Reigning World Surf League champion John John Florence faced pressure from injury replacement Nat Young in Tahiti this weekend but showed his experience in the final minutes of their heat to ensure his place in round four.
Young led during their round three heat before Florence scored two nine point rides to come back and confirm an impressive 18.70 heat total.
French surfer Joan Duru continued his strong run of form by defeating 2012 WSL champions Joel Parkinson to advance to round four.
Wiggolly Dantas also won an all-Brazil contest against 2015 WSL Champion Adriano de Souza, winning on back-up scores.
2014 WSL champion Gabriel Medina also went through against Australian Bede Durbridge with a score of 14.60.
