Hillary Clinton meets with moms whose children died in shootings

WASHINGTON (AP) – Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton met with a group of mothers whose African-American children died in gun shootings.

Clinton shared the “heartbreaking stories” of their children, according to a statement released by her campaign on Monday night.

She also outlined her criminal justice and gun control proposals.

Attendees included the mothers of Tamir Rice and Michael Brown, both killed by police, and Trayvon Martin, the 17-year-old whose 2012 shooting sparked national protests.

Racial issues have risen to the top of the Democratic primary agenda, largely due to the Black Lives Matter movement.

On Friday, Clinton was repeatedly disrupted by protestors during a speech in Atlanta.

She met with the families in the midst of a fundraising swing through Chicago before flying to Iowa for campaign stops.
