Hoggard falls in football state title game

Wedding wins over the Vikings 56-21

RALEIGH, N.C. (WWAY) – The Hoggard Vikings’ quest for a state title came up just short Saturday at Carter-Findley Stadium.

“You have to play about mistake free football in the state championship,” said Hoggard head coach Craig Underwood. “We just weren’t able to do that tonight.”

After jumping out to a 7-0 lead, the game quickly became out of reach for the Vikings. Senior cornerback Trey Nixon intercepted a Weddington pass and was tackled inside the red zone. Next play, Hudson Wilharm connected with Charlie Kilbourne for the game’s first touchdown.

The game proceeded to be dominated by Weddington.

A full recap of the game will air on WWAY News at 6 and 11 Sunday then follow with a deeper analysis on this web story.
