Humpday Health: Aerial yoga

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — If you’re looking for a way to make your workouts more exciting, getting your feet off the ground and taking your exercise to the sky might be the answer.

Most of us are probably familiar with the calming practice of yoga, but for those seeking just a little bit more, you can take your yoga off the mat and into the air.

“Aerial yoga is kind of a take on traditional yoga,” said aerial yoga instructor Jamie Poletti from Salty Dog Yoga in Carolina Beach. “It allows you to get into positions that you might have a hard time getting into without the fabric.”

Poletti starts off the class more like the yoga you might be used to, but then things get exciting.

She said you don’t have to be a yoga expert to give it a try.

“I have everybody walk in the door from complete beginner, never taken a yoga class to very advanced yoga classes to aerialists to zero aerialist,” Poletti said.

And this workout works your whole body.

“Every muscle you can think of. You will find muscles you didn’t realize were there. You will find you can stretch muscles you didn’t realize we able to be stretched,” Poletti said.

So if you’re looking for an exciting way to kick off a new workout plan or are looking for a way to spice up your current routine aerial yoga might be just what you’re looking for.
