Humpday Health: Post baby workout tips

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — On June 26, at 3:00 in the afternoon Shelley Jackson welcomed her son Graham into the world.

“And it was great! We were happy, everything went well. There weren’t any complications,” said Jackson.

During her pregnancy, Jackson continued teaching pilates classes and working out right up until Graham was born.

“I’m very grateful that I did continue my workout routine up until the end because I was able to bounce back easily,” Jackson said.

She said one thing to keep in mind when you’re going back to a fitness routine is that it will take some time for things to be completely normal again.

“They don’t recommend exercise, depending on your situation, for three to six weeks depending. Light, moderate exercise like walking is considered ok,” Jackson said.

She said that is where she started, packing up Graham in the stroller and taking a leisurely walk.

“And then as I started to feel better, and was cleared by my OBGYN, then I started adding in a little extra,” jackson said.

She said to listen to your body and don’t push yourself to get back to your pre-baby body too quickly too soon. She said to try and live in the moment.

“I think the most important thing is just to not put undue pressure on yourself. This is a really special time and just enjoy them,” said Jackson. “As he gets older and maybe gets a little more independent and we have more of a schedule, hopefully I’ll be back to my full routine.”

And she said if not, they’ll develop a new routine together and that’s ok too.
