I-140 construction traffic causes concerns
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — There is a lot of construction happening throughout Brunswick county. People who live near the I-140 work zone say it’s not safe.
As the work continues on the project, people are growing frustrated with the increased construction traffic.
Since the work started, people who live on Mt. Misery Road say there have been issues between drivers and dump truck drivers.
Leland resident Brian Powers says he’s seen it firsthand.
“The dump trucks in general from what I have observed are traveling too fast, some even tailgate,” says Powers.
A trooper who covers that area tells WWAY it’s not just the dump trucks drivers. He says both dump truck and other drivers have been cited in traffic incidents since the work began.
The DOT says the I-140 project is expected to not be done until 2017, but troopers say these trucks should be gone in about a year.
Powers say he’s excited about the new bypass but not having trucks around for several more months.
“People have children at the bus stop in the morning when these trucks drive by,” said Powers.
A spokesman from the DOT says while they are concerned about safety on the roads, the enforcement of any traffic issues on drivers is up to the highway patrol.
