“I love everything about it”: ‘Cape Fear Karate Kid’ reflects on success
8-year-old Shelby Milliken was honored as the 12 and under Isshin-Ryu Karate-ka of the year
LELAND, N.C. (WWAY) – Shelby Milliken is coined the ‘Cape Fear Karate Kid.’
The 8-year-old is already a multi time AAU national champ. Now, she’s a Hall of Famer. Shelby was named the Isshin-Ryu 12 and under Karate-ka of the year this past weekend. Add that on top of 6 state championship. 2 national championships, receiving a blue belt; the rising third grader has once again had a heckuva summer.
“I love everything about it. I really do,” says Shelby Milliken when asked what her favorite part of the sport is. “I work hard and I just keep working. If you stop then you keep going. And it’s good- I love doing karate.”
She says the favorite things she gets out of her passion are discipline, responsibility and respect.
