Intersection of Fifth Avenue and Castle Street to close for utility work

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Beginning Monday, March 3, the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Castle Street will be partially closed for approximately two weeks while crews replace water and sewer mains under the roadway.

According to a press conference, the road closures will be completed in two phases, with crews first replacing utilities under the northbound lanes of South Fifth Avenue and then replacing utilities under the southbound lanes.

Starting at 9 a.m. Monday, the northbound lanes of Fifth Avenue between Queen Street and Castle Street will be closed. This closure is expected to remain in place for one week.

Starting Monday, March 10, crews will close the southbound lanes of Fifth Avenue between Castle Street and Queen Street. This closure is also expected to remain in place for one week.

Through-traffic on Castle Street will not be allowed at the intersection with Fifth Avenue throughout the project. Drivers are asked to detour around the closures using Church Street and Queen Street, and detour signage will be posted throughout the area.
