Investigators warn of Bladen County fundraising scam

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) – A scam is making its way across Bladen County.

Sheriff James McVicker says a man and woman are going door to door, saying they’re soliciting funds for Elizabethtown Presybterian Church and Bladen Crisis Assistance.

The sheriff says they’re selling $5 tickets for food plates, but then never delivering the food.

They’ve been spotted in Bladenboro and Lumberton.   They were seen in a black Z71 Chevrolet truck with a white man driving. The woman has strawberry blond hair, hazel eyes and freckles, with a possible scar under her eye.

“This fraud was uncovered when Chris Denny, the pastor of Elizabethtown Presbyterian Church and a board member of Bladen Crisis Assistance began receiving calls from victims,” McVicker said. “Please help us put a stop to this. This is a crime against everyone.”

If you know anything, call the Bladenboro Sheriff’s Office, Bladenboro Police or Lumberton Police.
