LELAND (WWAY) — At the June 2023 North Brunswick Chamber meeting the John E. Jacobs American Legion Post #68 Leland was presented with the Non-Profit of the Year award.

REV Mortgage of Leland, a member of the chamber, presented Post #68 a donation for their work within the community. The funding will be applied to the post’s efforts to assist local veterans in need and several community projects sponsored by the post, to include youth programs, veterans assistance and community activities.

Post members sponsor local students to participate in Boys State and Girls State and provide scholarships to support the education of local children. They also support the North Brunswick High School JROTC program, and participate in local events including Leland’s Founder’s Day, the Rice Festival, and an annual oratorical competition that results in area youths being able to participate in regional, state and national oratorical competitions.

Post #68 also supports area veterans in need with a wide range of member driven programs, including building handicap ramps for disabled veterans and coordinating an annual event that brings veteran-related program representatives to the area so that our veterans can have their needs and issues addressed.
