Josh Jones continues to impress during Hoggard’s undefeated season
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Josh Jones is a playmaker that could be recognized as a Player of the Week every single week this season given the ridiculous numbers he has put up. But in Week 10, his performance caught the attention of the voters and he is our 5th Quarter Player of the Week.
“It means a lot, but none of it would happen without my guys,” Jones said. “It all starts with the offensive line. They do great week in and week out so you have to give the credit to them.”
Spoken like a true leader. The offensive line held their blocks, the receivers caught the passes and Josh Jones threw five touchdown passes in the 50-0 shutout victory over North Brunswick on the road.
“Our offensive line gave us great protection all night,” Jones said. “It was fun to throw it around to the guys and watch them score touchdowns. When we get the ball in their hands they make plays and that’s all we really need. Defense had another shutout so it was a good win all around. I definitely have some things to clean up this week at practice but I was pleased with it. I have some things to work on.”
We could talk about Josh and his 25 touchdowns or the fact that he’s only thrown two interceptions this season. But there is more to Josh than most people know.
“I guess I’m a funny guy around the guys,” Jones said. “I like being myself. Those guys are great and I love having a good time with them so I love being around them and making good memories with them.”
There have been plenty of incredible memories Josh has made over his time at Hoggard. The first nine wins of this season, leading the Vikings to the playoffs last year, or maybe even being interviewed for the 5th Quarter. But his favorite memory came last November.
“It would probably have to be our first round playoff win last year against Hillside,” Jones said. “We had a lot of odds against us and we came out and played as a team and got the win.”
Josh started playing football at 5 years old with influences from his father. He was a college football player and soon Josh could follow in his footsteps.
“It’s a lifelong dream that I’ve had,” Jones said. “I’d love to go out and fulfill that dream and just keep playing the sport that I love. I was at Davidson this weekend and I’m getting interest from Richmond, William & Mary and Elon as well as a little bit from ECU. I like to keep that personal but I’m definitely looking forward to the opportunity to play in college.”
Before that time, Josh Jones still has the rest of his senior season to go. With his mindset and skillset, he and the Vikings can continue to do great things.
Congratulations once again to Josh Jones on being named our 5th Quarter Player of the Week.
