Ku Klux Klan flyers left in Brunswick Co. driveways

BRUNSWICK CO, NC (WWAY) — The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after Winnabow residents reported bags of rice sitting in their driveways over the weekend apparently from the KKK.

Spokeswoman Emily Flax says deputies collected 130 of these bags on Saturday and Sunday. Flax says there is a flier from the Karolina Knights inside the bag of rice.

The grand dragon of the group David Holt says the Karolina Knights started in 1915 to stand up for white people’s rights. Holt says they are a Ku Klux Klan group.

“Black people have the NAACP,” Holt said.

Holt says the Karolina Knights promote American pride. He says they go on “knight rides” and distribute bags of rice with flyers in them to let people know they are in the area. He says it is also a way to recruit.

Flax says the investigation is open at this time.
