Laney advances with 15-12 win over Topsail

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) – In the 2nd round of the NCHSAA boys lacrosse playoffs, Laney took down MEC rival Topsail 15-12 on Friday to advance.
The Bucs earned a first round bye, and were playing in their first game since their regular season finale. Topsail defeated Laney in that matchup 10-9 in double overtime to hand the Bucs their only conference loss.
Things changed in the rematch as Laney got the job done to advance. Hutch Melind scored the first two goals of the match.
“Our offense wasn’t really pinning the ball last time,” Melind said. “We weren’t really playing as a team. What we really focused on this game is just really playing as a unit. Really getting everyone touches, getting everyone ready and set before we shoot and score the ball. How we’re patient and let everything come to us.”
The Bucs’ next game will be at home on Tuesday when they play Apex Friendship.
