Laney High School names new head football coach

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A former New Hanover defensive coordinator will be joining Laney High School as the head coach of their football team.

Coraey Houser was welcomed as the head coach by athletic director Fred Lynch on social media on Wednesday.

In November 2025, Steve Brooks resigned as the Laney head football coach on social media.

The Bucs went 6-5 and made the playoffs in his lone season at the helm.
