Law Enforcement United Inc. bicycle riders stop in Southport on journey to D.C. for National Police Week

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — A group of bicyclists traveling to Washington D.C. made a stop in Southport Wednesday.
The visit was honoring Assistant Police Chief Charles Woodson Easley who died in the line of duty July 14, 1940 after being attack by four men on a disturbance call.
Law Enforcement United Inc. is a group of Law Enforcement, Survivors, and Civilian supporters who have made it their mission to honor the fallen and remember the survivors. They are headed to Washington D.C. for National Police Week.
“We must never forget the sacrifices of the men and women killed while protecting and serving our communities,” a statement from the Southport Police Department read.
The group was escorted through Brunswick County, stopping by the various agencies along the way who have lost officers in the line of duty. Chief Coring, Major Burke, Det.Sergeant Burgess, and Officer Morsch greeted the team at Waterfront Park.
