Leland Police investigating shooting at apartment complex

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — The Leland Police Department is investigating a shooting that happened at an apartment complex late Thursday night.

According to police, officers were dispatched to the Comet Westgate Apartments on the 1300 block of West Gate Drive following a report of a person breaking into an apartment.

When emergency responders arrive around 10:40 pm, police and EMS discovered a man inside the apartment who had been shot. He was transported to Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.

Authorities have not released the identities of the man who was shot or the person who fired the weapon. Police say it appears the two people involved knew each other.

Police say there is no danger to residents or the community.
