LELAND, NC (WWAY) — After five years in business, Leland Smoke House is closing its doors, but a new barbecue restaurant has already opened in its place.

In a message to customers, Leland Smoke House thanked the community for its support and said the Leland location would close after “5 amazing years.” The restaurant did not give a reason for the closure. Its other locations in Monkey Junction, Shallotte and Southport remain open.

Taking over the space at 503 Olde Waterford Way is The Pit Backyard BBQ, a new, locally owned restaurant that is currently rebranding the former Smoke House location.

The new owners announced on Facebook that they are “so excited” to take over the business and promised that many favorite menu items will stay, with new additions coming over the next few weeks.

In an official statement, The Pit Backyard BBQ said it will serve pork, brisket, chicken and a variety of sides. The owners added that some longtime favorites will remain while the new restaurant develops its own style. They also plan to work with local charities and community groups.

The Pit is open daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Catering is available.
