Leland town manager discusses town hall expansion project following approval of bonds
LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Earlier this week, the State Treasurer’s Local Government Commission approved up to $13.5 million in bonds for the Leland Town Hall expansion project.
This expansion will add more than 20,000 square feet and around 60 offices to the existing building.
Town manager David Hollis said an expansion is needed because the use of services will continue to increase as more residents move to town.
But the expansion plan has received backlash from some current residents and the Local Government Commission even received comments against the bond request.
Hollis said some people have come to understand why this expansion is needed.
“Well we certainly had some people who expressed some concern about the town hall expanding,” Hollis said. “Some of those people who expressed some concern took the time to learn more about it and I think those people realized that it is something we need.”
Hollis said construction is likely to start within the next month or two and it will take around 2 years to complete.
