Live Oak Drive residents say compromise reached with tree trimming crews

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Residents of Live Oak Drive feel they have reached a compromise with Duke Energy crews.

Several weeks ago crews worked to trim trees branches away from the power lines but residents were very unhappy with the work and what they described as extensive trimming of the tree canopy.

Residents were so upset some climbed the trees to prevent crews from completing the job, but they say after working with the town and Duke Energy they have found a solution.

“We believe that we have come to a compromise that hopefully will be acceptable to us. That is why we are here now. We want them to know we are watching very carefully,” said Walter Laughlin who lives on the street.

Today crews came back to trim the remaining two trees as neighbors watched them work.

Those who live on Live Oak Drive say the trees make it one of the most scenic streets on Wrightville Beach.
