Local surfer claims victory as national longboard champ

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — A local surfer can now say he’s the best in the country.

Tony Silvagni just returned from California where the competed in the USA Pro Longboard National Championships.

Silvagni was up against the top 24 professional longboarders from North America and Brazil.

They all competed man on man for the top prize.

Silvagni says the finals included him and the 2 time world champion. He says it was a close battle but was glad he took home the win.
