Logan Black leads Ashley to road conference victory
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Screaming Eagle Quarterback may be softspoken, but he made plenty of noise Friday night in his team’s win making him our 5th Quarter Player of the Week.
“I was really honored and surprised actually when my name was up there and the amount of votes I got.” Black said.
From the outside looking in, there was no reason to be surprised as Logan scored all three touchdowns in the 22-20 road win over Topsail.
“It felt so good because I knew that we had to win this game because we’ve been down the past couple weeks,” Black said. “It just felt great to help my team get the extra push.”
His teammates have nothing but good things to say about Logan and that sense of family this team has is one of Logan’s favorite parts about the game of football.
“It’s such a great team sport,” Black said. “Not one person could play. It’s got to be a whole team.”
This team is in a good position to finish the season strong thanks to the Quarterback play Logan has brought to the field. They should be thankful because he hasn’t always been behind center.
“I’ve been playing since I was in kindergarten,” Black said. “My dad put me in it when I was little. I started off at center and I didn’t like that so I quit for a year. I came back and played fullback and after that I fell in love with it.”
Logan says he loves the physical nature of the game and his favorite NFL player shows he enjoys that as well. That player is Cam Newton.
“We’re both mobile and can pass pretty good.” Black said.
Logan’s senior season will feature one more regular season game at home against Laney. After that, he hopes he can continue to play the sport that he loves at the next level.
“I’d like to go to college and play football and hopefully play at a four year university and see what happens from there.”Black said.
