Loved ones celebrate life of newlywed killed in bike accident

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — It was an emotional afternoon as loved ones came together Saturday to celebrate the life of Megan McClellan-Hamilton.

She died back in May when police say an 18 wheeler collided with Megan while she was riding her bike on 17th street near College Road.

A slideshow of photos played as family, friends, and co-workers shared memorable moments they had with Megan at a memorial held at the Courtyard by Marriott in Carolina Beach.

Many shed tears, but also shared laughter as each remembered the special person Megan was.

“I can see that Megan touched a lot of lives and hearts,” Jennifer Red, Megan’s mother, said. “Even if you only met her once or twice or heard from people who loved her speak about her, she made an impact. We are going to miss you Megan.”

“I always told her she was my angel,” Johnnie Hamilton, husband. “I’ve made a lot of mistakes in my life and we have been through a lot, but when I met her all of that went away.”

Following the memorial, everyone gathered outside on the patio to release butterflies in her honor.
