Lower ISO rating could save Pender homeowners hundreds

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY)– Pender County homeowners could save hundreds on insurance thanks to a new fire and EMS ISO rating.

That’s according to fire officials. The lower rating will go into effect for insurance carriers on July 1st. Pender County fire chief Woody Sullivan says this was their goal after a fire and EMS merge 2 years ago.

“We have completed our 5 year plan in 20 months,” Sulllivan said. “It’s always a proud day for me to say to the community that hey I promised you 2 years ago this is what we could do as a combined effort and combined team. We could lower your insurance rating, improve response time, run more efficiently, and we’ve done all of those things.”

Sullivan says homeowners must check with their insurance carrier to find out whether they will get a refund check or a lower rate.
The fire district does not handle insurance rates.
