‘From our fire family to yours’: MBFD sends shirt to teen firefighter battling cancer

Timmy Richardson is a 16-year-old firefighter from Buffalo who was diagnosed with Leukemia just over a week ago.

What started as a seemingly harmless sinus infection turned out to be a battle he could wind up fighting the rest of his life, according to a Facebook page called “Timmy’s Battle.”

But one thing Richardson wants to fight, are fires. He is part of the Hy-View Fire Company’s explorer program and plans to make a career as a full-time firefighter.

While he is in the hospital, he has made the request to be able to wear a different fire company’s t-shirt each day.

His friends and family posted that request on Facebook, hoping to get support from fire departments across the country and try to lift Richardson’s spirits.

Our very own firefighters of Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue saw Richardson’s request and decided to take part.

In a Facebook post, accompanied by the picture of the shirt they sent to Richardson, they said, “From our fire family to yours Timmy, we hope you make a speedy recover! Stay strong brother!”

Richardson has already received many t-shirts, and other nice things, from different fire departments and continues to get more in the mail. He, his family and friends are grateful for the conitnuous support.

If any fire departments are willing to send a t-shirt or patch, please send them to the address below. If you don’t know of any fire departments and still want to send something, any t-shirt related to fire fighting would also be appreciated. Richardson wears a size XL men’s t-shirt.
