Millions of Americans hitting the roads for the Fourth of July weekend
LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Millions of people are preparing to hit the road to get to their Fourth of July destination.
According to AAA, more than 72 million Americans are expected to travel for this Fourth of July holiday, an increase of more than 1.5 million travelers compared to last year.
Of those 72 million, more than 61 million are expected to get there by car, the highest number ever recorded.
If you were hitting the road on Thursday, it’s good timing, as Wednesday was the busiest time to travel.
Here in North Carolina, more than 2.3 million people will travel for their Fourth of July holiday, a record for the state.
If you are driving, AAA recommends driving back before Sunday, as that will be the busiest travel day of the entire holiday weekend.
