Miss America to be crowned Sunday on WWAY

ATLANTIC CITY, NC (WWAY) — Miss America 2016 will be crowned in Atlantic City, NJ, Sunday night, and you can see it on WWAY.

Among the contestants is Miss North Carolina Kate Peacock of Dunn.

Peacock says she got into pageants because she could not play sports due to an eye disease she was born with that left her blind in one eye. Now she is trying to raise awareness of pediatric eye disease and encourage kids who suffer from it as she did.

“I was bullied a lot in school because of the way my eye looked,” Peacock said. “I doubted myself a lot. People told me I would never be in pageants. People told me I would never be on tv, because of that. So don’t ever get down on yourself. You can do anything you put your mind to. All it takes is dedication and a little heart.”
