Monkey Junction shooting suspect facing murder charges


NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office has sworn out warrants for the man accused of killing a woman in her home near Monkey Junction Monday.

Lieutenant Jerry Brewer  with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office said they plan on charging William Bernicki, 48 with first degree murder. Bernicki is accused of shooting Brittany Fullwood,34 at her house on Woods Edge Road on Monday.

Brewer said Bernicki then turned the gun on himself, but he survived.

Brewer said when Bernicki’s health is in better condition and he is conscious, Bernicki will be served with a first degree murder charge. Brewer said deputies are sitting with him at the hospital.

Fullwood’s father spoke with WWAY and said he is heartbroken over the loss of his daughter.
