UPDATE: Charges pending for man seriously injured in Wednesday moped crash

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A man was taken to the hospital Wednesday afternoon after a serious crash at the intersection of Shipyard Boulevard and Independence Boulevard.

WPD spent hours on the scene and says the man was driving a moped when he was struck by a car around 12:06 p.m.

The moped driver suffered serious injuries with severe bleeding from the crash, police say.

The man has been identified as 33-year-old Estavon Hill of Wilmington. Police say charges are pending against Hill for Failure to Yield Right of Way.

The road remained closed for hours but is now open again.
