BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) –The man charged with murder in a deadly Oak Island shooting has been released from jail after posting a $1 million secured bond.

According to court documents, 40-year-old Brian Reed Grant was granted bond during a hearing on September 5. As part of his release, Grant must wear an electronic monitoring device through the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, have no contact with the victim’s family, stay at least three miles away from the victim’s Oak Island home, surrender his passport, and not possess any firearms.

Grant has pleaded not guilty and notified the court of his intent to claim self-defense at trial.

The Oak Island Police Department began investigating the case on July 23, when officers were called to 332 NE 49th Street for reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they found 61-year-old Randy Stewart fatally shot.

Investigators say the shooting happened during a service call at Grant’s home. The victim owned Stewart Enterprises Locksmith Service, and police believe he was responding to a work appointment when the shooting happened.

A search warrant later filed in the case shows investigators seized multiple 9mm Luger shell casings, two intact projectiles, a black iPhone, eyeglasses, a pocket knife, and pieces of a wall and door from the home.

Grant’s bond will be revoked if he violates any of the court’s conditions. His next court date is set for December.
