Myrtle Beach city council bans the sale of CBD edibles downtown
MRYLTE BEACH, SC (WPDE) — Myrtle Beach City Council members decided to ban the sale of CBD edibles in shops along Ocean Boulevard, in Tuesday’s council meeting by a vote of 5-2.
City officials were met with a lot of opposition from business owners in the downtown area who voiced their concerns for almost an hour about the things that do and don’t make a specific area of town family friendly.
The ordinance was first presented over a year ago and voted down by the planning commission, and the one voted on today was revised because it originally outlawed the sale of tobacco products like cigars and cigarettes, which some council members said, shouldn’t have been a part of the ban.
The ban on the sale of CBD edibles affects stores along Ocean Boulevard from 6th Avenue South to 16th Avenue North.
Many businesses owners said they couldn’t believe it, and mentioned that there are bigger issues impacting the image of Myrtle Beach than what’s being sold in stores.
