NAACP members march downtown to push for more to vote

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Voting is a civic duty, but for some people its hard to find the time to.

Many people utilize early voting and Thursday the NAACP is emphasizing the importance of it.

The New Hanover County NAACP held their March to the Polls to put an emphasis on voting and early voting.

They started at St. Stephen AME Church and walked to the Cape Fear Community College science building. Why? Because that is an early voting site.

Members of the NAACP say early voting is underutilized and needs more attention.

“The importance of having early voting allows more time for individuals to vote,” Deborah Dicks Maxwell, New Hanover NAACP president said. “More accessibility to vote, which we are fortunate to have in North Carolina. So we really need to use it, especially Sunday voting this year.”

They are hoping this will continue to bring more people out to vote.

Early voting started today and will be open until the Saturday before election day.
