NC brewery donates 50,000 cans of water to Flint, Michigan
DENVER (AP) – Oskar Blues and Ball Corp. have sent 50,000 cans of fresh water to residents of Flint, Michigan, with more headed to the city, which is currently struggling with lead-contaminated tap water.
The Denver Post reports that the water is being shipped from Oskar Blues’ brewery in Brevard, NC, in cans provided by Ball, which is based in Broomfield, CO. Oskar Blues is based in Longmont, CO.
Flint’s water became contaminated after Flint switched from the Detroit water system to the Flint River as a cost-cutting move. The corrosive water lacked adequate treatment and caused lead to leach from old pipes. President Barack Obama has declared a federal emergency in the city.
Oskar Blues has previously sent water to victims of flooding in South Carolina and tornadoes in Texas.
