NC man wanted for killing girlfriend arrested in Tennessee

JACKSONVILLE, NC (AP) — A North Carolina man charged in the beating death of his girlfriend has been brought back to Onslow County after being arrested in Tennessee.

The Daily News of Jacksonville reports (http://bit.ly/28TIXZM ) that 45-year-old George Shafto left Cumberland County, Tennessee, not long after his arrest Thursday.

Deputies think he had been in Tennessee since 30-year-old Mary Stoll was found severely beaten on March 30. She died a few days later.

Authorities say Shafto beat Stoll before. Investigators said in September 2015, they charged Shafto after he tied Stoll up and attacked her.

Court records show Shafto plans to hire an attorney. He is being held in jail.
